Ryan Pore Wins Golden Boot

“The golden boot is finally mine! Thanks to all my teammates for making this possible. Now it’s time to bring a championship back to PDX!”

That was Portland Timbers midfielder Ryan Pore’s Twitter post (@RyanPore) late Sunday afternoon following the conclusion of USSF D-2 regular season games. In addition to the 15 goals he notched during the 2010 campaign to win the Golden Boot, Ryan also added 5 assists during the year to land on top of the Point Leaders table as well with 35 points.

“I was fortunate to get off to a hot start and ride that wave all through the season,” said Ryan after Tuesday’s training session. “I’m real happy about it.”

The races for points and goals leader came down to the wire with Ryan having a slim lead on Austin’s Eddie Johnson in both categories heading into the final weekend of games. Johnson had an opening to try and overtake Ryan since Austin had two matches to Portland’s one. Curiously though, Johnson sat out both matches for the Aztex and wasn’t a threat to take the awards.
